Accounts Trainee / Graduate Trainee

Long Bennington Office

We are looking to recruit an Accounts Trainee for our Long Bennington Office who is either part way through AAT, wanting to start studying for the AAT qualification or a recent graduate wanting to commence a career in accountancy.

Technical Compliance Director

Cambridge Office

As a top 40 UK accountancy firm that has successfully grown in terms of the size of the practice, the nature and complexity of our work and that has ambitious growth plans, we are now seeking to appoint a dedicated Technical Compliance Director to support the firm’s existing compliance team.

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant and Auditor, working in or having worked in an accountancy practice in an existing relevant technical or compliance role. A desire and interest to further your knowledge and to progress in the role is essential.

As this role is new to the firm, you will able to play an instrumental part in its shaping and lead on all areas of compliance and risk management.

You will be working closely with and supported by the firm’s existing Audit Compliance Partner and the Chairman/Managing Partner.

Whilst ideally the role will be based in the firm’s Cambridge office, there is flexibility to office location and working arrangements.

The role, for which some experience would be desirable but for which support will be provided, will include:

1.      Providing a technical supporting role to the client facing partners and managers across the entire practice on all arising matters including:

  • Technical financial reporting;
  • Audit related matters;
  • Anti-money laundering queries;
  • Ethical requirements from both the ICAEW and the FRC; and
  • Managing potential conflicts of interest considerations.

2.      Ensuring effective communication on all areas of compliance within the firm.

4.      Undertaking hot file reviews/EQCR’s as required under ethical requirements or internal procedures.

5.      Acting as a point of contact with the ICAEW on compliance related matters and supporting the current Audit Compliance Partner and Practice Assurance Partner.

6.      Undertaking a review of existing working practices, suggesting improvements and delivery of agreed recommendations.

7.      Completion of the ICAEW Annual Returns for the existing 13 ICAEW regulated entities within the firm structure and any new firms acquired.

8.      Undertaking a review of the current policies and procedures, making recommendations for any improvements and implementing agreed changes and maintaining oversight on a continuing basis.

9.      Oversight of training requirements, including mandatory CPD requirements.

10.   Preparing for ICAEW regulatory visits and the conduct and conclusion of such visits and implementing recommendations from those visits.

11.   Maintaining effective communication on all areas of compliance matters within the firm

12.   Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge on all relevant legislation and changes to compliance matters.

13.   Maintaining an oversight and control of outsourced functions to ensure compliance within UK regulations.

Corporate Tax Manager

We are looking to support our ambitious growth plans by recruiting a Corporate Tax Manager to manage a portfolio of corporate tax clients with a keen focus on advisory work.

The advisory work will involve M&A transactions, tax due diligence, share option schemes, R&D claims, restructures, succession and exit planning, including but not limited to, company buybacks & MBO’s.

As a Corporate Tax Manager, you will be responsible for providing tax compliance and advisory services in support of the Tax Partner, maximising fee income and supervising work in progress and billing for the department.

The role is mainly corporate, but ideally the candidate will have experience in personal tax and VAT if possible.

In addition to strong technical abilities and a track record of advising on and leading M&A deals up to £10million, the successful candidate will be confident, self-motivated and able to work as comfortably on their own as well as with the support of the managing director and support staff. Above all, the ideal candidate will be a team player and will be able to motivate and inspire others.

Salary is competitive and dependent on experience. The role will allow some flexible/agile home working.

The Role

  • To work closely with the directors and junior members of staff on various corporate and commercial transactional matters;
  • Lead transactions and negotiate and advise clients on a variety of matters, including share and asset disposals, management buy-outs, shareholders agreements and various commercial contracts;
  • Work alongside the directors and Streets’ marketing team and play a key role in developing and implementing the firm’s growth strategy in its chosen markets;
  • Manage your own client portfolio with the support of the directors and junior members of staff and win new clients through internal and external networking and marketing;
  • Oversee and assist with training and development responsibilities for junior members of staff.

Requirements

  • Qualified solicitor with a minimum of 3 years PQE;
  • Demonstrable experience of both corporate (M&A) and commercial legal matters;
  • Excellent communication and personal skills;
  • Fully proficient with all Microsoft applications, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel;
  • Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail;
  • Strong organisational skills;

Tax Manager

Northampton Office

We are looking to recruit a Tax Manager to manage a portfolio of personal and corporate tax clients and deliver internal and external tax advice.  As a Tax Manager, you will be responsible for providing tax compliance and advisory services in support of the Tax Partner, maximising fee income and supervising work in progress and billing for the department.

The role is mainly corporate, but ideally the candidate will have experience in personal tax and VAT if possible.

This position will also take responsibility for the management of the tax function withing the region to support the tax partner. The successful candidate must have experience as a manager or assistant manager in practice.

The responsibilities for the candidate will include:

  • Tax returns - corporate and personal to review
  • Assistance and also leading with the delivery of tax projects to include:

     - Research and development tax credits.
     - Employee share schemes.
     - Company mergers and acquisitions.
     - Company reconstructions and demergers.
     - Experience in Stamp duty would be desirable
     - Cross border tax  experience would be desirable

  • Assisting in the training of other team members

Essential requirements:

  • Holds a relevant professional qualification such as ACA or CTA (or equivalent) with extensive experience of tax compliance services.
  • Demonstrates broad and strong technical tax knowledge and experience.
  • Good client handling technique including excellent written and presentation skills
  • Able to build good relationships with members of the team.

We are looking to recruit a Tax Senior for our Northampton office.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background of tax compliance, in a Practice environment, together with up-to-date technical knowledge and excellent communication skills.  Some experience in an advisory role and/or VAT would be an advantage.

Experience is more important than qualification for this role, which requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent communication skills.

You will be responsible for a mixed portfolio of tax clients, including directors, self-employed individuals, HNWIs, expatriates, and some trusts. You will also be expected to identify tax planning and tax investigation issues and bring these to the attention of relevant people within the firm.

There are also opportunities to expand your advisory experience should you wish.
