Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT makes it mandatory for most VAT Registered businesses to keep electronic records and submit VAT Returns through compatible software. This commences from the first VAT period starting on or after 1 April 2019.
For businesses using software that isn’t MTD compatible, i.e. can’t file directly to HMRC under the new MTD route, including those using excel, you will require a ‘bridging’ solution.
Bridging software is simply a piece of software which acts as an intermediary between your electronic records and HM Revenue & Customs.
