VAT advice

VAT has become increasingly complex over the years, and is far from the simple tax we were promised in the early 1970’s when it was introduced.

VAT is a transaction based tax and you will need to get it right at the time a transaction occurs. Unlike many taxes, it is not possible to sweep up matters at the year end to reach a satisfactory conclusion. If you do not ensure that the VAT treatment you apply is correct at the outset, you could face problems.

HM Revenue & Customs now target their resources more towards the recovery of under paid VAT than routine periodic inspections.

Streets employs VAT specialists with many years experience in VAT matters, often gained in the employment of HM Revenue & Customs.

Let us help you deal effectively with the VAT aspects of your business. We can provide all the assistance you require whether it’s for a routine VAT registration or a difficult case before the VAT and Duties Tribunal.

VAT planning can be advantageous particularly in situations involving property transactions and partial exemption. A leaflet issued from the local VAT office or the National Advice Service is unlikely to answer your query and will certainly not provide positive VAT planning advice.

Streets will give the help you need.

Advice includes:

  • VAT Health Checks
  • VAT Planning
  • Special Methods
  • Partial Exemption
  • Property Transactions
  • VAT Assessment Reviews and Reconsiderations
  • VAT Group Registration
  • Late Registration
  • ‘Reasonable Excuse’
  • Capital Goods Scheme
  • Liability Disputes and Rulings
  • Negotiations with HM Revenue & Customs
  • VAT Appeals and Tribunals
