Family Business Forum 2017

The Family Business Forum is back for 2017!

We are delighted to be hosting the first forum of 2017 at The Petwood Hotel, which is a family run business and who’s Director, Emma Brealey, was a finalist in the Director of the Year Category at the Midlands Family Business Awards last year.

The focus of this event is on the role and importance of good governance within a family business. Our speakers will consider why governance is important and how family businesses can embrace it. Our discussions will also look at the pitfalls of not having a governance model in place, including the cost and conflict it can create within the business, as well as the family as a whole. This event will include presentations from professionals and a family business with a Q&A session.

Speakers & Topics

Hayley Sanders, Lawyer at Andrew & Co Solicitors

Hayley is a company commercial lawyer with extensive experience in corporate governance and working with family businesses across Europe, having previously worked as an in-house lawyer for a French family office.

Hayley will explore practically how corporate governance can be adapted for family businesses. Due to the dynamics of a family business, lines can all too often become blurred, running the risk of family conflicts occurring.  She will look at how these conflicts can be avoided or at least mitigated with the right guidance and structures in place.

Andrew Haigh, Non-Executive Director and Adviser to SME Businesses

Andrew Haigh was until recently Managing Partner for Entrepreneurs at Coutts & Co Bank and now works as a
Non-Executive Director and adviser to SME businesses.

Andrew will be providing practical guidance around Governance for Family Business Owners. He will look at why family governance is important, the challenges governance brings and practical help on starting a family governance system and structures.
