Annual Academies Update 2017 - Bedford

  • Location: The Barns Hotel, Cardington Road, Bedford, MK44 3SA
  • Start: 9 am
  • Finish: 5 p.m.

Academies specialist, Streets Chartered Accountants, is delighted to be hosting its 6th Annual Academies Update.

A free and informative update for schools and Academies – Headteachers, Bursars/Business Managers, HR Managers and Governors.

Whilst it is now nearly seven years since all schools were offered new found freedoms through converting to academy status, the challenges of looking after the finances and annual reporting still prevail. Equally many have to consider the wider implications of the development of Multi Academy Trusts (MATs). This is in addition to considering the challenges of balancing the books, dealing with staffing matters and safeguarding the interests of the Academy as a whole.

Given this background our 2017 Academies Update will focus on three key areas:

  • The Academies Accounts Direction for 2017 and looking to the year ahead from a financial perspective
  • Managing People Costs Effectively
  • Fraud Guidance

The Academies Accounts Direction for 2017 and looking to the year ahead from a financial perspective

Robert Anderson | Lead Technical Partner for Academies, Streets Chartered Accountants

  • Points of interest and action from the latest Academies Accounts Direction
  • Review of other key guidance
  • And finally, some burning issues on Robert’s mind for Academies

Managing People Costs Effectively

Andrew Hall | Beststart Human Resources and Jenny Arrowsmith | Irwin Mitchell Solicitors

This session will be delivered by HR specialists Beststart Human Resources and educational employment law specialists Irwin Mitchell. The majority of Academies are under financial pressure to ensure that all costs are managed effectively. With staffing-related costs being one of the largest for most schools, Irwin Mitchell and Beststart HR will cover a range of areas that all Academies should review followed by practical tips to help you to ensure that costs are managed effectively. This will include manpower planning and the use of different forms of employment contract; looking at managing absence both short and long-term; and restructures.

Fraud Guidance

Vin Pandha | Commercial Banking Control Function, Lloyds Bank Plc

The risk of fraud in all walks of life is greater than ever, this includes education and organisations like Academies. The impact of fraud whether it is financial or around data security should never be underestimated. This special presentation seeks to highlight the potential risk Academies face around fraud and how they can take steps to manage potential risk and/or exposure.
