With a growing number of family businesses recruiting or appointing non family members in managerial roles or as non executive directors, our focus will be on the role and benefit of non family members in a family business. In particular we will look at why you might consider a non family member, how you might go about seeking suitable recruits and how you ensure they fit in and integrate with the culture of the business.

Following on from our last session, which focused on the role of external investment in a family business, we are delighted to welcome back Russell Copley from Lincolnshire Investment Network.  Building on from the discussion and interest around funding available for businesses locally, we have asked Russell to provide a whistle stop tour of the various loan schemes, grants and funding initiatives open to family businesses across Greater Lincolnshire.

Our speaker line up and panel will also include Tim Sutton who is a Non Executive Director with a number of family businesses. Tim is a highly focused adviser and personal coach, experienced in plc, family owned and SME high growth businesses. Tim will talk about his own experiences and what he feels he brings to the business, especially around aspects of re-structure and implementing growth strategies. Typically Tim supports family owned businesses in ‘scaling up’ and often with succession and exit plans.

We are also delighted to be joined by David William who was Managing Director with the family owned business Butt Foods - Naan bread suppliers to the retail and latterly the foodservice sectors. David will share with us his thoughts and experiences around being the non family member and MD of a family business, both from his perspective and the family perspective. He will look at the role and benefit of having non family members in senior roles as well as how the family approached it and any challenges it has presented along the way.
